PCIT
Build a better bond. Create a calmer home.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment and parent training program for young children (ages 2–7) with emotional and behavioral challenges, including disruptive behaviors such as frequent temper tantrums and defiance or refusal to follow directions. PCIT focuses on strengthening the parent-child relationship and improving parent-child interaction patterns. Children and their caregivers participate together in every session.
During PCIT, you’ll play with your child while your therapist observes and provides real-time feedback to help you build a stronger bond and manage disruptive behaviors.
PCIT has two phases:
- First, you’ll learn skills that help your child feel calm, secure, and connected to you.
- Then, you’ll learn how to set clear limits and handle behavior challenges with confidence and consistency.
PCIT can help with:
✅ Fewer tantrums, whining, and aggression
✅ Better listening, following directions, and respecting house rules
✅ Stronger bond between you and your child
✅ Increased attention span
✅ Greater parental calmness and confidence during discipline
✅ Decreased parental frustration
Most families complete PCIT in about 12–20 sessions, depending on progress.
